I have uninstalled and re-installed several times with the same results. I have tried stopping the print spooler service, as recommended on some support sites. I eventually reached a point where Office didn't work and couldn't be uninstalled. In addition, I couldn't install anything else because Windows reported an installation in progress, which blocked all other installs. I also noticed that the PC wouldn't stay in shutdown or sleep mode.
If I told it to shut down or go to sleep, it would, but anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours later, I would find the computer was back on. I have no idea if this is connected to the incomplete Office installation, but I suspect it is.
I called MS Tech Support a couple of weeks ago. On the first call, which lasted about an hour, the tech basically did the same things I did and got the same result.
He said he'd call back, but he never did. On the second call, just last weekend 3 October , the tech uninstalled Office which, after a few more uninstalls and re-installs by me, wasn't working at all. He then tried to do what he was calling a "clean boot". He disabled pretty much all the startup programs and also disabled all the services except the LogMeIn Rescue service under the System Configuration utility.
